At first I thought that there was only a couple of ways to teach phonics but then I learned you can teach it in five ways which are: analogy based phonics instruction, synthetic phonics instruction, phonics-through-spelling instruction, embedded phonics instruction, and analytic phonics instruction.
A question that still lingers in my mind is when is a teacher supposed to correct a student’s spelling even if they are sounding out the word using phonics?
Yesssss. The variety in phonics instruction is exciting! The idea of correcting spelling is a tricky one, and something we will continue to talk about.
Indeed, Emma, that question lingers in my mind as well. I do hope one day we’ll figure this out together on our journey to become educators.
