An argument to me is a differing of opinions between two parties with data and proof backing up each side. A verbal disagreement is just a fight but an actual argument, in my opinion, needs facts to support or else it’s just fighting. Arguments usually appear when there are two sides that are both on extreme ends of the spectrum. If there is also data supporting both sides, then arguments can arise because both sides have sufficient evidence to back up why they are correct. The purpose of arguing is to usually get people to take your side and agree with you. In order to do this, you need evidence, data and facts to support your way of thinking because people will not blindly agree with you based on opinions. Take Gun Control for example, some people say that guns should be eradicated and made illegal because they are responsible for school shootings and children dying, while others say guns should stay because it is their right. Both sides are inherently correct; guns are the leading cause of death in children as of 2023, while the 2nd amendment does protect people’s right to bear arms.
