Final Lesson: Dreams & Nightmares!

For my final lesson I used my Arduino design to make a project based around the idea of dreams and nightmares. Students will have to design a 3D paper sculpture based around a dream, nightmare, or significant story while keeping in mind how to incorporate blinking programed lights into it. For my teacher example, my project was based off of a nightmare or fear of bugs that I have that has been relevant to me as spring is approaching and bugs are a fear I have. I want students to be very open and creative in how they choose to depict their dream or nightmare scene in a 3D way that uses lights meaningfully. I am limiting the students to use paper/ink/collage and drawing tools to make their sculptures, as the LED lights and programming work well with this material. I really love this project and think I would actually try to use this in my own classroom one day.

  1. I think it’s so cool how you were able to covert a fear and create something so mesmerizing and interesting to look at. I think having students explore this concept in a lesson is wonderful and I like the limited materials to create the contrast and really define a nightmare or fear. I think it came out really awesome and the drawings are so detailed!

  2. This came out beautiful and was definitely one of my favorite final projects from our class! I love your big idea of dreams and nightmares and I think you made a great example for it! The way the lights flicker underneath the paper is so beautiful!

  3. I think this is a great lesson idea. I know if I was a student and received this prompt, my imagination would run wild! Your example came out beautifully and I’m happy to hear that you intend to carry out this lesson one day!

  4. I think the assignment and materials used works very well for exploring the dreams and nightmares topic. Definitely an interesting concept to delve into and I think incorporating lights gives a very surreal dream-like element to the work.

  5. This was a really successful assignment because it conveyed your big idea and I think the delicateness used in your material choices is a great way to translate fear into beauty.
