Ottaway Sponsors Investigative Reporting Lab, a new special topics course for Spring

The Department of Digital Media and Journalism is excited to announce its new Spring course, DMJ393-01 Investigative Reporting Lab, thanks to the sponsorship of the Ottaway Foundation endowment.

The class will introduce students to the fundamentals of investigative journalism through a lineup of guest speakers drawn from subject matter experts throughout the industry. Students will also work to establish a small investigative team of their own, pitching and developing real stories in partnership with local newsrooms.

At the direction of their editors and reporters, and with guidance and supervision from ABC News Investigative Producer Pete Madden, students will put their skills to the test in support of a final project to be published by a local news outlet that promises to have an impact on the surrounding community.

The course will be led by ABC News Investigative Producer Pete Madden. Madden spent two years as an adjunct professor at Westchester Community College before joining the ABC News Team in 2017.
