Instructions:
For this assignment, you will use a tool called Prism for “collective interpretation,” or for comparing our interpretations of poems. I have uploaded all three poems into Prism: each poem lists different themes, and each theme has a color. Highlight each text in accordance with each theme, take a screenshot of the result, and email it to me, and we’ll see where we agree and where we all differ.
Due:
September 9th by 9am.
How to Use Prism:
- Make an account:
- Go to http://prism.scholarslab.org/users/sign_in
- Click on any of the social media icons to make an account through Facebook, Google, or MozillaPersona, OR sign up by email.
- Go to the Prism page for each of the following poems:
- For each poem, click on the color to start highlighting words relating to that theme: for example, for “Ozymandias,” click on the blue to highlight any words in the poem that you think are about art.
- Click and drag over words that relate to the theme you’ve selected.
- To get read of highlights you don’t want, click the eraser, and then click on any word whose highlighting you want to erase.
- Once you’ve finished one category, switch to the next by clicking on the next color.
- When you have finished highlighting all the words that match categories, TAKE A SCREENSHOT of your highlighted poem and save it on the desktop.
- Then click “Save highlights.” This will take you to a visualization of how your classmates have highlighted the poem.
- Repeat steps 3-8 for each poem.
- Send me an email (swafforj@newpaltz.edu) with the screenshots for each poem to receive credit for this assignment.
We will use these highlights and comparison visualizations to start our conversation in class and to compare the three poems.
