Revising my essays not only helped me find the common mistakes in my writing and how to fix them, but also helped me improve my writing critically. For my common mistakes, I corrected a lot of grammatical errors. Going through and making sure that everything looked and sounded correct was important. A main way I did this was by reading my papers out loud. This helped me find and fix spots that sounded weird or off. A grammatical error I had to fix was with commas. For this, I looked up the rules for commas and fixed it from there. Another revision I made was changing the format and organization of my essay to make it flow more cohesively. This made my essay flow from topic to topic easier and got my audience to follow one train of thought, and I mostly did this to my Rhetorical Analysis section to make the transition into the Extended Definition section cleaner. I also refined my argument and added new components to it, which not only made it stronger but also helped me connect with the audience and make my argument more convincing. For critical thinking, I thought about accuracy and clarity in my revision. For accuracy, I have been making sure to use strong sources to verify my arguments and help convince my audience. This includes ensuring that my sources are credible and diverse in terms of media. For example, one of my sources is an organization’s website, while another is a video of an interview. This ties back to using clarity since I use it to connect my sources back to my argument and sincerely explain how it relates back to my overall audience. Another key term that I have been focusing on in my revisions and cultural analysis is relevance, both to the world and to my overall idea. All of these skills help me both when writing papers for any class but also when conveying my ideas better in general.
