* Epiphany: 2024 Breakout! Writers PrizeFiction, Nonfiction, Poetry – Deadline: 9/30

 The 2024 Breakout! Writers Prize is now open for submissions. The Breakout! Writers Prize brings visibility to and supports outstanding undergraduate and graduate student writers. Winners have won the PEN/Dau Prize and gone on to get agents, publish books, and discover new careers in publishing. This year’s prize judges are: James Cagney for poetry, and Manuel Muñoz for prose.

*  The New Square New Writer’s Prize – The new writer’s prize is open to all writers 21 years of age or younger. Open subject. Winners will be published in the fall issue of New Square and receive a $100 prize. Runners up will be featured on our website. 2,000 words or less. Deadline: 11/1. Submit via email to newsquarelit@gmail.com, with the name of the contest in the subject line.

* The Lascaux Prize in Creative Nonfiction – Submissions may include memoirs, chronicles, personal essays, humorous perspectives, literary journalism—anything the author has witnessed, experienced, learned, or discovered. Pieces may be previously published or unpublished, and simultaneous submissions are accepted. Winner receives $1,000 and a bronze medallion. Finalists receive $100. Winner and finalists are published in The Lascaux Review.

* The Ghost Story – Supernatural Fiction Award –  Submissions may involve any paranormal or supernatural theme, as well as magic realism. Story length should run between 1,500 and 10,000 words. $1,500 and both online and print publication to the winner. Two other writers receive Honorable Mention awards that include publication and cash prizes of $300.

* The Moth Nature Writing Prize is open to anyone over 16, as long as the work is original and previously unpublished. There is a 4,000 maximum word limit. The entry fee is €15 per entry and you can enter as many pieces as you like. Deadline 9/30.

You can enter online or send your entry along with a cheque or postal order made payable to ‘The Moth Magazine Ltd.’ with an entry form or a cover letter with your name and contact details and the title of your piece attached to: The Moth, Ardan Grange, Milltown, Belturbet, Co.
