These days everybody knows how to talk like an expert, especially in higher education
Lots of declarative sentences
Opinions stated as facts
Have anyone ever used a certain style of speaking as a “power move” against you? Have you ever used it “against” someone else?
Two reminders:
#1 – EVERYONE is welcome to join: secretaries, facilities staff, clerical staff, police officers, as well as faculty and students. No special expertise needed.
#2 – Please be aware of our Mission and Values – which can be summed up as:” “listen generously, come prepared to change your mind and, speak only from your lived experience, in which you are the only expert.”

I had a difficult but helpful conversation this weekend with extended family. I got pretty worked up on a topic close to my heart: inaction in the face of injustice. But passion on that subject can sound a lot like blaming.
So how do you get past the Blame Problem when talking about injustice, privilege, bias, etc.? Care to discuss?
We hope to see you next week, June 13, 2018.

Another semester nearly gone. Will there be a Conversation today? Well I’ll be there! If you’re around and interested, stop in. And no matter how many people there are, something interesting’s bound to happen…
There will be intermittent Conversation opportunities during the summer. If interested, get on the mailing list.
Thanks to everyone who made this another amazing semester!
