Dear ePortfolio reader,

This semester English 170 has helped me to improve on my writing abilities. Coming into this English 170 I knew the basics about writing. This class has taught me many skills that will be used in my future. I will be able to apply what I already know and learned in my classes and career. I’ve become a stronger writer based on the critiques and feedbacks I received. Being in English 170 has been a great experience and made me a better writer.

During my time in English 170 I have learned and mastered many different techniques. Some of these techniques are writing a professional letter, properly citing sources, becoming a better presenter and keeping my audience interested. The drafting of my short essays and the feedback I received helped me to create a stronger argument. I used the feedback to avoid the mistakes I made in the major project. This process showed me what I did well and what needed improvement.

Some aspects that were most successful are achieving my purpose and explaining my evidence. Once I figured out what I wanted to write about I had to find evidence that would support it. Sometimes finding evidence was hard because the same information would be repeated but once I searched harder I found what I was looking for. Explaining evidence used to be a challenge for me but this class helped me dig deeper than just restating the quote. I dug deeper into the quote and explained how it connected to my purpose.

Throughout this semester English 170 has taught me different skills and strategies that will be used during my academics and career. As an Early Childhood Education major with a concentration in Black Studies I’m required to do a lot of writing in my classes. The techniques that I learned such as the components of writing a professional letter, how to properly cite sources, becoming better at presentations and how to keep my audience interested have prepared me for my other classes. Learning how to cite sources is what helped me to create a proper works cited page. These techniques will also help me in the future in my job as a teacher. The way I approach my interviewer and present myself will determine if I get a job. As a teacher the way I teach my class will make them want to keep learning.

Sincerely,

Cierra
