Fossil Fuel Depletion Annotated Bibliography

Most of Earths energy comes from non-renewable sources such as fossil fuels which not only are unsustainable but also produce a ton of carbon emissions. The article talks about how Nigeria is a country which has almost all of its energy coming from nonrenewable sources, so a study was done there to see how switching to more renewable source would effect there country. This source is relevant because it gives a lot of information on the effect of nonrenewable resources and fossil fuels, but it also shows how a lot of countries main economy comes from the selling and harvesting of fossil fuels such as oil and coal. Additionally, this article is not opinion based and is almost all facts with evidence to back it up. One downside to this article is its not worldwide and was only tested in specific areas, although the information gathered from those areas helps prove my claim still because it shows how Fossil fuels and other nonrenewable sources will eventually be obsolete and we will no longer need them.
Martins, Florinda. “Analysis of Fossil Fuel Energy Consumption and Environmental Impacts in European Countries.” Energies, vol. 12, no. 6, Mar. 2019, p. 964., February 22nd 2023 https://doi.org/10.3390/en12060964
This article starts off by talking about a positive of fossil fuels which is that Fossil fuels energy is easy to process and control. The author then goes on to talk about how even though there are some positives to fossil fuels but ultimately there are many more negatives. Such as environmental impacts like air pollution and global warming, or that fossil fuels are nonrenewable and can not be our main source of energy forever. In the article the author gives an equation to find the amount of energy fossil fuels produce and an equation to see the depletion of fossil fuels over time. This source is relevant because it was published in 2019 and has multiple studies in European countries to help show the information. I can use this for my claim because I can talk about how over the years fossil fuels and other nonrenewable sources like natural gas will slowly die out by using the formula as an example and we would be forced to switch to a more renewable energy source.
Höök, Mikael, and Xu Tang. “Depletion of Fossil Fuels and Anthropogenic Climate change—A Review.” Energy Policy, vol. 52, 2013, pp. 797–809,February 22nd 2023 https://doi.org/10.1016/j.enpol.2012.10.046.
This article talks about the future of fossil fuels and renewable energy sources and how the IPCC made scenarios to get an estimate on emissions of green house gases and carbon emissions, as well as the amount of fossil fuels we might be using in the future and the amount we might have. Additionally the price of nonrenewable resources was discussed, and how over time it’s going to start to cost more money due to the limited amount of fossil fuels available. The author goes on to talk about how energy is a crucial part of our economy, and the selling of fossil fuels and non- renewable resources produces a lot of income for countries. An issue in this article is that most of the information is a lot of theories based on previous statistics from earlier years, an example given is when the author talks about how the IPCC is overestimating the amount of fossil fuels, we will have available in the future due to a the previous year also being overestimated. This source can help prove my claim because it attempts to give an insight on the future of our main energy source and how it effects our environment.
Day, Creina, and Garth Day. “Climate Change, Fossil Fuel Prices and Depletion: The Rationale for a Falling Export Tax.” Economic Modelling, vol. 63, 2017, pp. 153–60, February 22nd 2023 https://doi.org/10.1016/j.econmod.2017.01.006.
In this article its discussed how an increase in energy consumption is resulting in the mining of more fossil fuels to try to keep up which leads to more carbon emissions and global warming. Additionally, this Is causing countries to loose money due to the amount of restrictions on fossil fuel mining. The author talks about how there is a new idea to try and slow the mining of resources, by either the government taking over the mining of fossil fuels and other nonrenewable sources or to try and pay the owners of the mining companies to not mine for a certain amount of time. This source is relevant because it discuses how over time fossil fuels will increase in price due to there limited suply and how our energy consumption is increasing every year. I can use this source help prove my claim because as we use more fossil fuels it will negatively affect the environment in many ways, and as time goes on were going to need more energy then we can produce with just fossil fuels.
