Before taking this course my initial attitude about my writing was very neutral. During high school I peaked in my writing and I didn’t think that my writing could improve by much. However, once I took this class my attitude has changed a lot. During high school I took AP courses, so I had a sense of what college level writing is like. What I wasn’t prepared for was, how much research I would need to do and how much work I need to put into using proper punctuation.

Most of the writing strategies I have learned from taking this course can be applied in my communication class. In that class I have to write up case studies weekly, I found that having a writing plan to stick to helps me become more efficient. In the future I will continue to plan out the steps to my writing so I can stay organized. My writing process has not changed by much, the one thing that did change was how I revise and edit my work. In the past I never went back to edit or revise my work, my first attempt was also my final. Since taking this course, I have learned how important going back and fixing my work is.

The aspects of the main course assignments that I think were the most successful are, language use and tone, and the research process. In my writing, I value the use of language and tone because of my personality. I always want the person who reads my work to get a sense of who I am through my writing. I also found the research process to be very helpful, prior to this class I assumed that almost all the sources I found were credible. After taking this class I now know more about what a credible source actually is and how to find them. In my essays I would like to continue to make revisions in my organization of my essay. I still struggle with making my essays flow and figuring out where information should be placed in my writing. I also need to continue to work on my conventions, MLA citations can be difficult for me because in high school we used a simplified version. I am still learning how to properly cite the evidence that I use throughout my writing but, I feel that with more practice I will be able to be more proficient.

I now feel prepared to go onto ENG170. I think that all the new skills I have learned throughout this course have prepared me to take the next step in my writing journey. I feel like my writing abilities have improved and moving to the next course where I can continue to grow in my writing of clear, academic argument and analysis-based research essays.

This semester, I had to learn how to create a digital portfolio, and consider my work as public, or shared with a larger audience (beyond just my instructor). I would describe this process as stressful. My work is usually kept private and having my work made public gives me a bit of anxiety. I always want whatever work I put out to be the best it can be and even though I am aware that it is good to get different kinds of feedback, I still want everyone who reads my work to think I am a good writer. However, the online medium has not changed my writing process and I am still confident in the work I put out.
