Summary: This book is about a young girl named Isabella who was born into slavery in Kingston, New York. When her owner died, she was sold around until she was twenty-eight. The law was changing in New York and her owner had offered her freedom. When he took it back she ran away. She got her son Peter back who had been sold. She sent him to school in New York City. He went onto be a sailor, but later died. After that Isabella felt it was her calling to become a sojourner and move around spreading her message. From that day on she was known as Sojourner Truth. She moved on to join an abolitionist movement. She went on to speak about what it was like to be a slave and spread her message throughout the land.
Review: This is a great book to teach children the story of Sojourner Truth. A lot of stories just tell about her later life, but this book tells her story from the very beginning.
