Physical chemist, kineticist, spectroscopist, atmospheric chemist.  Francisco published important theoretical and experimental  work on the kinetics and thermodynamics of gas phase reactions occurring in the upper atmosphere.  He is the co-author of one of the standard textbooks on kinetics for graduate students in Chemistry entitled, Chemical Kinetics and Dynamics.

Published over 475 peer reviewed publications in the fields of atmospheric chemistry, chemical kinetics, quantum chemistry, laser photochemistry and spectroscopy

President and board member of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers.

President Barack Obama appointed Francisco as a member of the President’s Committee on the National Medal of Science from 2010 to 2012. He also served as a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences

fellow of the American Chemical Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Physical Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science

Awards: Percy L. Julian Award for Pure and Applied Research, the McCoy Award, the Edward W. Morley Medal, and the Alexander von Humboldt Award

Currently, President’s Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at University of Pennsylvania.
