Physical chemist, kineticist, spectroscopist, atmospheric chemist.  Francisco published important theoretical and experimental  work on the kinetics and thermodynamics of gas phase reactions occurring in the upper atmosphere.  He is the co-author of one of the standard textbooks on kinetics for graduate students in Chemistry entitled, Chemical Kinetics and Dynamics.​

Published over 475 peer reviewed publications in the fields of atmospheric chemistry, chemical kinetics, quantum chemistry, laser photochemistry and spectroscopy​
