Oral Presentations & Visual
Rhetoric: Stasis Theory
Directions: Refer to the following questions from OWL Purdue’s “Stasis Theory” to evaluate the
presentation “Fed with Chris van Tulleken: Series 1: Planet Chicken 4. The Ethical Consumer’s
Dilemma.” In groups, create a visual aide and present your evaluation for each level of stasis. For your
conclusion, determine at which level(s) Tulleken’s and his guests’ understandings differ from each
other’s and/or from those of your group members, if any. Also, determine for which levels there is
consensus.
Minor Project 2: Evaluative
Annotated Bibliography
Final Draft of Annotated
Bibliography (Must be copied and
pasted)
Annotated Bibliography Guidelines: As part of your researched argumentative essay, you must create
an annotated bibliography. Your document must cite and annotate a minimum of four (4) peer-
reviewed and two (2) additional sources as outlined in the assignment. The annotation for each article
should include a summary, an evaluation of the text, and a reflection on its applicability to your own
research.
Major Project 1:
Researched Argument
essay draft
Research Paper Guidelines: For this assignment, research concepts related to human behaviors that
affect the environment as detailed below. Consider the contexts of the situations you read about.
Compose your paper, providing research as support and documenting in MLA style. The research
paper should incorporate at least four (4) academic peer-reviewed and two (2) additional sources,
range in length from 1200 – 1600 words, be double spaced, and be in 12-point Times New Roman font.
MLA formatting should be followed throughout the research document. The general topic concerns
human behaviors and their effects on the ecological environment. These behaviors include: what
humans choose to eat; where we choose to live; what we manufacture, buy, and use each day; how
we transport ourselves; the number of offspring we have; and how we spend our time. What do you
think? Learn what you can about one aspect of human behavior’s negative (or positive?) effects on the
environment. What do others have to say about this topic? Is there a suggestion as to how to correct
the behavior’s effects that you support? Do you have your own suggestion? Research the topic and
write your own argument. Be sure to include some published definitions of relevant terms. Be sure to
cite your sources.

Minor Project 3: Updated Works Cited page
Updated Works Cited: Building on your individual Research Essays, work as a group to propose a
project that fulfills the written component and the presentation component of the Multi-modal
project requirement of the course. Consider the Wicked Question, this time focusing on cultural
choices and behaviors that can be changed to improve the environmental damage to which our
behaviors currently contribute. Consider the Wicked Question, this time focusing on cultural choices
and behaviors that can be changed to improve the environmental damage to which our behaviors
currently contribute. Decide which resources you already have that can be used to support your
project. Complete additional library research to supplement this new angle on this topic. You must
have a total of ten (10) sources; six should be academic and four may be informal sources. 2. Excellent
variety of sources; cites more than four types of sources. (You can have multiple journal articles, but
they should be from a variety of journals.) 3. All annotations are thoughtful, complete, and written
well. 4. Citations are formatted correctly in the document according to current MLA guidelines.
On this tab, please post your
multimodal project drafts. Include
links and pasted content. Proposal: Depending upon your project choice, you must submit your written aspects for review.
Additionally, you must present your project in one form or another. You will want to be able to post
this on your Hawksite, so be sure to keep that in mind. (If you are completing an activity, you might
want to video record it.) PLEASE ADD TO THIS THE ELEMENTS OF THE ACTUAL PROJECT YOU
COMPLETED (IE PODCAST INSTRUCTIONS)

Major Project 2: Research / Multimodal Project
PROJECT + ARTIFACT
Minor Project 4:
Multimodal Project Reflection
Reflection: Consider how your project addressed the Wicked Question for this course: Broadly
speaking, we explored the ways in which aspects of our cultures affect our ecosystems. The root
questions are: • What aspects of our cultures affect our ecology, and what are we willing to change? •
Can we change the aspects of our cultures that damage our environments without diluting our
cultures so much that they are indistinguishable? Were you successful in bringing an awareness, an
action, and/or an understanding of issues related to our Wicked Question?
Optional Additional Materials
(diagnostic essay, podcast review,
any free writes, journals, in-class
writing,
Toulmin/Rogerian/Classical
rhetoric, etc.)
Portfolio and Course Reflection: Write a 3.5-4-page letter to your portfolio reader about your progress
this semester, and about the specific works included in your portfolio. Include a Works Cited page for
all sources, as always
