Hello, Anthro Peeps – This from the American Anthropological Association. Note the events happening today (Thursday 2/20). – Dr. Junge
Happy Anthropology Day!
Today we celebrate Anthropology Day, a time to recognize the contributions of our field to addressing humanities most complex and pressing problems. Beyond celebration, today serves as a crucial reminder of the challenges our field faces, including diminishing funding and challenges to academic freedom.
A slew of recent incidents underscore the importance of advocating for the preservation and support of anthropological research and education. We know anthropology offers invaluable insights into human cultures, behaviors, and histories. We know it fosters cross-cultural understanding and addresses pressing global issues. On Anthropology Day, we reaffirm our commitment to making sure the world knows of the important contributions our field produces and defending against threats that seek to undermine the impact of anthropologists.
We invite you to join us in this endeavor by:
- Attending one of the local events listed below.
- Sharing the ways you think an anthropological perspective can make a difference by tagging AmericanAnthro or using the #AnthroDay on social media.
- Advocating for the support and continuation of anthropological programs and researchs
