Anthropology Club Interest Meeting (Postponed to 9/21)
My name is Jessica Smeeks, and I am a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Anthropology Department of SUNY New Paltz. Last year I took on the role of faculty advisor for the Anthropology Club. I was thrilled to take this on, but the pandemic prevented us from having our usual events and excursions. In the past, the Club hosted movie nights, guest speakers, field trips, and more. It is my hope that we can return to some of these traditions this year and find new ways to stay social and learn about the four fields of anthropology in a non-classroom environment The driving force behind this movement forward, will be you all, especially those interested in taking on leadership roles in the Club! The Anthropology Club is open to ALL students (so invite your friends!) who share a passion for anthropology, as well as various human cultures across time and space. This club is a prime opportunity to join a community of like-minded students with similar interests. As things return to semi-normal on campus, our goal is to build the club back up to what it once was. Among other things, this includes gathering a solid base of members, so we can reapply as an official student organization in the Spring. This would provide us with some funding to increase the quality and quantity of our events and activities. Given the pandemic and low numbers last semester, were were unable to have an organized meeting to nominate and elect officers. As such, our first task is to select a president, vice president, and social media coordinator. Please consider volunteering. These positions should not take up a lot of your time, and they would look great on a CV or Job Resume. To get the ball rolling, I will be hosting an interest meeting (with snacks) next Tuesday (September 14) from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Wooster Hall biological anthropology lab (3rd floor). I hope to see you all there! In addition, I would like all those interested in possibly joining (or continuing their membership) to fill out this survey: https://forms.office.com/r/bZVPFjDnwh
Date and Time: Tuesday September 21 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Wooster Hall biological anthropology lab (3rd floor)
