A Primer on precontact Native American pottery in the Hudson Valley

Precontact pottery vessels (c.1200 B.C–1620 A.D.) from the Huyler Rockshelter in Hyde Park will be laid out in WH 365 and available for student examination, illustration, etc… The primer will discuss construction techniques, use of various kinds of temper, firing temperatures, decorative techniques and ceramic volume/cooking possibilities. The Huyler site ranges from c. 6300 B.C. to European Contact and later. Over thirty precontact ceramic vessels are represented in the collection. This collection of pottery has been described by Dr. Hetty-Jo Brumbach (Emeritus Professor/SUNY Albany) as a Ph.D. Dissertation by itself. All details on flyer.
