Fought uphill, they have created ways to identify each other and properly make their cause known; “Characterized by the slogan “Chile despertó” (Chile woke up), this estallido social (social explosion) would continue for months, as Chileans relentlessly critiqued the ways the state had failed to meet the most basic needs of citizens.”
