To whom this may concern,
This fall semester I have felt extreme growth in my writing. This comes from me learning how to write detailed blogs about a new topic every week and also bringing my knowledge from Comp I and AP high school English classes. My assignments so far have been long but they have taught me that good writing needs time and dedication which I will be honest at the beginning I wasn’t putting in much effort. Outside of English, I will most definitely use all the resources I was taught this semester which were the library websites and the academic sources to use in my papers or even when I’m doing research for any topic.
While in high school I rarely did my papers in MLA format so this has been a big adjustment for me throughout Composition I and Writing and Rhetoric. I lost my passion for writing when I didn’t the freedom to speak about things that I was passionate about or topics I found interesting to put my attention on. The drafting process really helped me and my writing because my professors were committed to actually help my writing and to help me use academic language in all my writing professional or not. Drafting in my opinion was useless until I actually saw the importance and level of effectiveness it had on one’s writing. Even though I know it is important I sometimes think not every piece of writing needs a drafting process. I sometimes am careless when it comes to deadlines and things that need to be done but once I do them I try to perfect them as much as possible so I won’t fall as behind.
Throughout the course of the semester especially during these challenging times, I found myself feeling unmotivated for a lot of things especially writing long papers. I managed to get my head back in the game and learn and grow. Revising and peer review also helped my writing a lot because everything you write may seem perfect in your eyes but once another person and their perspective see your work they can help approve your work a lot. I now understand that good academic writing takes more than I thought it would and I’m grateful for the help I have received to improve my writing and be successful.
Sincerely,
Amy Mercedes
