My Feelings on ENG 170
I’ve never considered myself strong in reading and writing. While other kids excelled in essays or stories, scoring at least an 80 on something requiring writing was a victory for me. Finding the right words has always been a struggle. But this semester, after taking English 170, I’ve noticed significant improvement in my writing skills and processes.
At the beginning of the semester, I was nervous. I doubted my abilities, especially knowing the class would involve a lot of writing. But as the class went on, I discovered that writing can be diverse. Through different assignments and readings, I realized that academic writing can also be creative and fun. I learned that writing doesn’t have to adhere to strict rules and can be an amazing form of self-expression.
My favorite writing assignment was the compare and contrast essay. I got to go deep into a subject I’m really passionate about, and I got a really good grade. I was afraid I wasn’t gonna do well, but I was wrong.
I feel prepared to handle other college-level writing situations because of this class. English 170 provided me with a solid foundation in English, which I can build upon in my future in writing.
In reflection, my literacy journey has been about overcoming personal challenges. While initially feeling inadequate compared to my classmates, completing English 170 has brought about significant change. Not only have my grades improved, but I’ve also gained confidence in expressing myself through writing. English 170 played a big role in this development, providing me with techniques and insights that transformed my writing. As I move forward, I will continue to use my improved skills and a renewed confidence in my ability to connect with myself through writing.
