Classroom Guidelines
Community Guidelines:
1. We want the classroom to be a safe and fun place where we become equal, a team, and coordinate together.
2. In order to create this classroom community, we agree to adhere to the following guidelines:
3. We will listen to each other.
4. We will be accepting of everyone.
5. We acknowledge that classrooms reproduce social hierarchies and that those who are empowered to speak in public discourse are often those whose voices get heard the most often in classrooms. We will be mindful of how much we each speak and for how long, and we will make a deliberate effort to hear those voices and perspectives typically silenced in mainstream media, culture, academia, and other spaces.
6. We are all going to work hard and submit our absolute best work
7. We will not plagiarize
8. We acknowledge that we will inevitably mess up and say the wrong things in our efforts to discuss systemic bias and discrimination. We will do our best to acknowledge these mistakes, try to fix them, apologize if needed, learn from them, and move on.
9. We listen to each other and try to understand what each individual puts in effort towards building and growing as a strong team.
10. We will treat others the way we want to be treated.
11. We will respect one another’s ideas/opinions regardless of any pre-existing conflicts you may have.
12. We will respect those who may disagree with us.
13. We will challenge each other and ask questions to see other perspectives.
14. We will complete the work assigned to us on time. 🙂
15. We will respect people’s preferred pronouns.
16. We will handle any class debates or disagreements respectfully.
17. We will be creative.
18. We will try to be as active in group discussions as possible.
19. We will be attentive and respectful towards each other and Professor Locke.
20. We will control our shenanigans. Our Tom-foolery. Our horsing around. Our goofball-ness. Our quirkiness. Our zany moments. Our silly-goose times. This is a place of learned-adults, no room for wacky gags. Lollygagging? ESPECIALLY lollygagging. Horsing around is for Netflix, not English class.
21. We will always ask questions if we feel the need to!!
22. Be mindful of others’ space.
23. Everyone is going to have different views on today’s controversial topics. Everyone should understand that everyone has different beliefs that make us human and unique.
24. We should feel comfortable to share our thoughts in class!
25. Have a great time learning together!!!
26. We will respect school property!
27. Be respectful towards each other’s ideas.
28. Consider someone’s feelings before reacting.
29. Try to be open minded and understanding.
