Altocalciphilia is the sexual attraction to shoes with heels. Heterosexual men are not exclusively but do make up the majority of people who have this condition. This condition generally describes men who are strongly sexually attracted to a woman’s high heels. Most men adopt this fetish from encountering a memorable woman, most often in their early stages of youth. These women often wore high heels, causing these men to associate heels with those women in their brains, eventually forming these sexual urges toward heels. Like most fetishes, there is a range; some men could have a preference for women who wear heels for companionship, and then there are men who are completely enamored by heels that they are content with the object itself for sexual pleasure. When breaking down the origins of Altocalciphilia, we are introduced to retifism, coined after the French novelist Nicholas-Edme Restif, who wrote Fanchette’s Foot, his version of a love letter for his intense infatuation for footwear. His innovative novel moved the fetish to the limelight, creating an acceptance around the fetish. After reviewing and reading public comments from people who do have this conditional fetish, there is somewhat of a common interest in how heels accentuate a woman’s body, creating a more appealing figure for the male demographic. Others have also commented that they enjoy the heels for what they represent- a strong woman who is comfortable in her sexuality. Altocalciphilia has many sister branches of fetishism within its definition- some include the intensive desire for a woman’s foot, nail polish, or foot shape if they are heterosexual. The fetish also includes the material of the shoes that women wear. The majority of men do have an interest in women who wear leather.
