Faculty/Staff Outing: Spring Farm, Mohonk Preserve, Friday Oct 27, 4:15 / 4:30 p.m.

Come enjoy the Spring Farm trails at the Mohonk Preserve.  Wildflower wander, rock scramble, or moderate hike .  Carpool from the Faculty Center behind College Hall (4:15 p.m.), or meet us on the mountain at the Spring Farm parking lot (4:30). People who do not walk or hike, consider the gravel carriage trails or please join us on the drive-in field, 6:00 p.m.  Preserve closes at sunset. Bring your own Mohonk Pass or contact Sarah Wyman (wymans@newpaltz.edu) to register for one.

30 free passes reserved for faculty & staff until 2 p.m. that day.

Time:  4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m  (4:15 for carpool on Plattekill behind College Hall / Faculty Center)

Location:  Spring Farm Trailhead or carpool from FDC.  wymans@newpaltz. to offer/accept a ride.

Significant others, including dogs on leashes, friends, and kids welcome.

For the rock scramble, wear loose clothing and closed-toe shoes. Bring water.  Mark and Jackie, experienced climbers, will guide folks up the scramble. Sarah will take people up the yellow and blue trails to Bonticou Crag. Others can stick to the gentler carriage trails or hang out on the beautiful field by the parking lot, with a Catskill Mountain view.

DIRECTIONS

Take the New Paltz exit 18 off of the NYS Thruway. Go west on Route 299 (Main St.through New Paltz), go over steel bridge and turn right onto Springtown Road. Make a left onto Mountain Rest Road. Pass the entrance to the Mohonk Mountain House and go under the one-lane bridge. Continue on 1 mile, and turn right on Upper 27 Knolls Road. Within ¼ mile, you’ll reach the kiosk for the Spring Farm Trailhead. This is the trailhead for Bonticou Crag as well as the Table Rocks Trail.

Afterwards, some of the Faculty Adventure Group will head to The Parish, 10 Main St. New Paltz (some of us don’t DRINK, by the way) and then some off to see Undertow and Brasskill brass bands at Old Dutch Church in Kingston at 8:00 p.m.
